Pelin Yazar of Turkey showing at Dara Tribal Village

Dara Tribal Village started several programs that will continue into the Peace Villa:

  • Gallery openings featuring local artists and artisans as well as thematic shows.

  • Performances of music and dance

  • Hosting of Not-for-Profit local events

  • On-line auction and internet sales (eBay, Overstock.com, TIAS, and Trocadero)

  • Launching of Artezano Links (see link at bottom of page)

Future projects include:

  • GandhiCrafts Journal, an e-magazine on the cultural and environmental impact of craft businesses.

  • A craft curriculum for schools, introducing children and young adults to different cultures through the exploration of different crafts.

Endless programs can be introduced around the concept that the more we learn about each other, the more we will understand our similarities and differences and hopefully learn to live with respect for each other.  The beauty of approaching this through the craft angle is that it is impersonal- techniques and appreciation can be taught, then expanded to learning about the maker of crafts, his or her world view, needs, struggles, and gifts.

The Peace Villa will have its own production facility which will employ local people. An important aspect of this vision is its potential for economic development, locally and internationally.  Programming will also address these goals.
