A
Newsletter for Dara Tribal Village
an
ethnic gallery
Life
is full at Dara Tribal Village. More than a store, it has truly become a
village, a place where people gather to share their talents, to learn, and to
create community. Our sincere hope is that this space can help foster
greater understanding among peoples of different cultures, faiths, and
backgrounds. The products stimulate curiosity and creativity while our
events bring people together who might otherwise never cross paths.
Formerly on Wednesdays and hosted by Gabriele Strohschen, a local activist poet, these
nights were show and tell time for those present. We ate pot-luck
style, talked, share
stories, poetry, and music- each night, new surprises. Currently
these nights have been postponed. They started off well-attended and
then petered off. We decided to wait awhile and perhaps start again
in the Spring. We are, however, open to having these on an
occasional basis if someone wants to organize them.
This separate space within the gallery features local artists and
community groups with rotating exhibits.
Events outside of regular planning,
including aid to Afghanistan.

Dara Tribal Village has had considerable press in the last six months.
Co-owner, Abdul Wardak, is an Afghan American who has imported from Afghanistan
and the region for almost ten years. His story and perspectives have been
especially relevant given our current military involvement in Afghanistan.
