Go Knit in Turkey!

My friend, Catherine Bayar, lives in Istanbul, Turkey.  She is heading up these knitting weekends that look just great to me!  There is no better way to experience another culture than to sit around with the locals.  And, for those of you who knit, this must be some kind of paradise!  I hope that you can make your way over there!

Discover craft history, meet local women artisans, enjoy inspiration-filled knitting sessions and indulge in a world of yarn and textiles. My knit-conspirator Figi and I are both long-time expats in Turkey, fluent in its dramatic setting to knit and learn new skills. Here’s a sample of what we’ll do:

Arrive Friday to a selection of complimentary yarns and kits. Saturday, we wander the Bazaars for inspiration as only Istanbul can provide, finding yarns, textiles and other treasures in this ancient melting pot marketplace. Then a workshop session to learn about the diverse fiber crafts of Turkey, techniques, history and much more. Sunday, historic sites to visit, more colorful influences to soak up! Another workshop to add to your crafting skills.Monday, travel late in the day, or better yet, extend your trip as we enjoy one more morning outing before you go!
