Julie Kornblum Studio

Julie is one of the artists on TAFA: The Textile and Fiber Art List who has been a huge inspiration to me through her use of plastic waste in her work. She weaves, assembles and has enjoyed yarn bombing events. The featured image is temporary until Julie sends in her hand.

A grant writer and involved in social justice issues, Julie is also launching a new effort that supports work with women survivors of domestic violence and women’s rights in Los Angeles. Her initiative, Women Run LA, is organizing the 1st annual Women Empowerment Day which will take place on January 20, 2019.

The first annual Women Run LA Northridge Women Empowerment Day, which will take place on January 6, 2019, on the beautiful campus of California State University Northridge. The day will feature a half marathon, 10K, 5K, and 1K fun run and will include fun, informative, and engaging activities for runners, family, and friends: community presentations, music, food, a health and fitness expo, Yoga salon, kid’s zone, and more.

The main purpose of Women Run LA is to raise funds to support the work of organizations who are doing critical work for our community by providing critical support for women. We are looking forward to the participation of 8000 runners for our four races. Proceeds from the first annual Northridge Women Empowerment Day will help support Women Crowned in Glory Inc./Safe Passage, and The Women’s March Los Angeles. Safe Passage is a nonprofit organization that helps women and their children heal and rebuild their lives after they have escaped violent and abusive relationships. The Women’s March is a women-led movement dedicated to transformative social change that will secure human rights for all people.

A bit from her art bio:

Julie Kornblum earned her BA in Art, with a concentration in fiber and fabric art, at California State University Northridge. But being a fiber artist was hereditary. She learned sewing, knitting, and crochet from her mother and grandmother. She attended fashion design school at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, was a patternmaker in the garment industry and taught at Otis College of Art and Design. Julie teaches fiber related workshops; her woven wall and basketry work has won numerous awards.
